About

Our commitment to sustainable development

Our desire to establish hotels in preserved and isolated islands also depends on our ability to build structures that respect their natural environment, to promote local employment and to ensure the present and future well-being of Polynesians.
For years, our teams have been doing their utmost, on a daily basis, to preserve water, promote new energies, use natural and biodegradable cleaning products, recycle waste and treat wastewater.

SPM is committed to continuous improvement in order to optimize its environmental and social performance. In order to reduce our waste production, energy and water consumption, preserve the islands’ resources, support local populations and fight global warming, sustainable initiatives are implemented. Particular attention is paid to the well-being of employees at work and to employee empowerment. Wherever possible, sourcing is local and respects fair trade principles.

Ethical charter

Our vision is to continuously improve customer satisfaction, preserve the richness of our islands and contribute to the well-being of our employees. Our desire is to allow the customer to live an authentic Polynesian experience.

Earthcheck Certification

We recognize that our company’s activities can have a negative impact on the environment and local communities if not properly managed. We are therefore in the process of implementing an environmental management system that meets the requirements of the EarthCheck standard.

In its sustainable development approach, South Pacific Management has chosen EarthCheck certification, an environmental benchmarking and certification system for the tourism sector. This certification, created in Australia in 2009, allows companies to evaluate the impact of their activities on the environment, and to encourage them to improve their economic, social and sustainable performance. This certification is recognized at the global level since it counts more than 1200 tourism organizations in over 65 countries.

The group has decided to support Manava Beach Resort & Spa Moorea in its environmental initiatives. According to Jean-Marc Vermorel, Director of Operations, “the certification will help our hotels find new solutions to be even more environmentally responsible”.

Coral Grafting Workshop

Coral reefs are in great danger, more than a third of them have already disappeared. The cause is excessive development of the coastline, human pollution, global warming… Yet this ecosystem is vital for the human species and the oceans.

The solution: coral cuttings to create new reefs by transplanting coral cuttings on threatened areas of the lagoon. When these coral shoots will grow, a new habitat will be created and marine animals will be able to reinvest it.

Nukutepipi, an example of environmental policy

Nukutepipi is one of the most exclusive islands in the world. It is a private paradise nestled in the waters of French Polynesia.
This idyllic private island is located in the heart of the Pacific Ocean. With its approximate length of 5.6 km, Nukutepipi is one of the smallest atolls in the Tuamotu Archipelago of French Polynesia.

Nukutepipi is home to a unique collection of rare tropical flora and fauna, a primary forest, untouched beaches, a protected lagoon and natural coral reefs. The ongoing preservation and protection of its ecosystem is one of our proudest achievements, and we are fully dedicated to maintaining and sustaining a balance between the needs of the island’s natural habitat and those of our guests.
In this particularly fragile place, the concept of an ecosystem takes all its value. Indeed, fauna, flora, micro-organisms and the natural elements are interdependent within an energy and material exchange network that ensures the maintenance, balance and development of the island.

The use of solar energy and the recovery of rainwater constitute our first means of action in the protection of the environment on the island. The atoll also aims to be almost self-sufficient in food thanks to the maintenance of a vegetable garden, the breeding of chickens and the introduction of bees to promote pollination.
